Kathleen Cairns, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in West Hartford, Connecticut and Beverly Hills, California.


Her weekly column LIFE GOES ON was featured on www.ctwatchdog.com and several newspapers online. She was also a frequent guest on TheConnecticutWatchdogNewsHour, The Jim Vicevich Show WTIC, & The Mary Jones Show WDRC. She has also appeared on several national television shows.


Dr. Cairns is the author of “The Psychotherapy Workbook: A Home-Study Guide For Growth & Change”  endorsed by New York Times best-selling author and psychiatrist Dr. Harold Bloomfield. She co-authored "The Bald & The Beautiful: Surviving Breast Cancer." She wrote and produced the self-hypnosis audio tape Breathe... As If Your Life Depended On It. She has also created a line of lithographic greeting cards entitled “Kathleen’s Condolences.”


Dr. Cairns has been in private practice for over 25 years. The diversity in the city of Los Angeles has given her a multi-cultural exposure to working with clients from most every ethnic, racial, religious, and socioeconomic background.


For over twenty-five years, Dr. Cairns’ work has focused on the teaching and development of communication and intimacy skills in relationships. Her areas of expertise include anxiety and depression, bipolar disorder, recovery from addiction, adult children of alcoholics, agoraphobia, stress management, the mind-body connection, transgender issues, and death and dying. Dr. Cairns was a consultant to Project Nightlight, an organization dedicated to helping AIDS patients without families in the final stages of dying. Dr. Cairns is currently writing “Last Wishes: A Psychologist’s Guide To Living Life Prepared For Death, with foreword by Timothy Leary. Based on her experiences of working with the dying and their families, this book is a compendium of rituals, traditions, and beliefs from around the world.


Dr. Cairns conducts "Parental Program" seminars in Los Angeles, Boston, and Hartford, based on her methods from The Psychotherapy Workbook.”
